A tyre that needs replacing is not always an emergency, but it is never something to put off. Low tread, a bulge in the sidewall or a cut from a pothole all reduce grip and raise the risk of a blowout. Booking a garage, taking time off work and waiting in a reception area is the part most drivers dread.
Our service removes that step. Tell us your tyre size and postcode, choose a tyre that suits your budget, and a Tyrex technician comes to the car. The old tyre is removed, the new one is fitted with a new valve, balanced on the van’s machine and torqued to the manufacturer’s setting. We take the old tyre away for responsible disposal.
We replace single tyres, pairs and full sets on cars, vans and SUVs, including run-flat tyres. Most jobs are booked for the same day or the next day. If the tyre is unsafe to drive on, we treat it as an urgent job through our emergency tyre fitting service.
Tyre replacement is part of our wider mobile tyre fitting service, which covers Ipswich, Colchester and the surrounding towns, so you can book wherever the car is parked.
Compared with a garage visit, the work and the checks are the same. The difference is that you do not have to drive on a worn or damaged tyre, find a slot that fits around work, or sit in a waiting room. Many customers book a replacement at home in the evening or at work during the day and carry on as normal while the job is done.
Clear prices, a real choice of tyres and fitters who turn up when they say they will.
Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear, Dunlop, Hankook, Yokohama and Kumho, plus quality budget options.
Most replacements are fitted the same or the next day, at a time that suits you.
Fitting, a new valve, wheel balancing and old tyre disposal are part of the quote.
The price we quote is the price you pay. Always.
No garage visit and no waiting room.
It is printed on the sidewall, for example 225/45 R17 94W. A photo on WhatsApp works too.
We give you budget, mid-range and premium options with a fixed price for each.

New tyre fitted, balanced, torqued and pressure checked before we leave.
Not every tyre problem means a new tyre, but these signs usually do:
Most tyres also have tread wear indicators: small raised bars across the bottom of the main grooves, set at 1.6mm. When the surface of the tread is level with these bars, the tyre has reached the legal limit and needs replacing straight away.
If the damage is a nail or screw in the main tread, it may be repairable instead. Our mobile puncture repair technicians check this first, and we only recommend a new tyre when a repair would not be safe.
In the UK, car tyres must have at least 1.6mm of tread across the central three-quarters of the tread width, around the whole circumference. They must also be free of serious cuts and bulges, inflated to the correct pressure and suitable for the vehicle.
The penalty for an illegal tyre is a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each tyre. With four illegal tyres, that could mean fines of up to £10,000 and enough points to lose your licence.
Grip drops well before the legal limit. Stopping distances in the wet grow as tread wears, which is why many tyre makers suggest replacing at around 3mm. A 20p coin gives a quick check: place it in the main grooves, and if you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread may be close to the limit and should be measured properly. If you have been driving on a tyre that went flat, read can you drive on a flat tyre before you go any further.

Amazing service! My tyre got slashed, and I had tried for over an hour to get through to the RAC and AA but they wouldn’t come out to me without a membership, and all their membership lines were closed. Tyrex were available, easy, fast and friendly services. From the initial call, to fitting and payment, the job was done in less than 45 minutes and I was home within the hour. Thank you for saving my day!Posted on Google![]()

Poor communication with another tyre firm (who promised to be with me in 1.5 hours and weren't) led me to call these guys. My 40 to 50 minite wait was not met but not their fault as westbound A14 was closed. They did keep me updated on their delay and were great when got to me. Was worried about having to pay £60 upfront but checked them out on trustpilot.Posted on Google![]()

Quick response and helpful. Would recommend
The right tyre depends on how you drive. For short local journeys a quality budget tyre can be good value, while drivers who cover high motorway mileage often get longer life and better wet grip from a premium brand. We explain the difference honestly and never push a tyre you do not need.
A few rules we follow on every job:
Not sure what your tyre size means? Take 225/45 R17 94W as an example. 225 is the tyre width in millimetres, 45 is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width, R means radial construction and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches. 94 is the load index and W is the speed rating. Send us those numbers, or a clear photo of the sidewall, and we will match the right tyre.
Need the wheel off but the locking key is missing? We carry the tools for locking wheel nut removal and can sort it on the same visit.

FAQ
Check the tread depth, look for bulges, cuts or cracks, and notice any vibration or the car pulling to one side. If the tread is near 1.6mm or the sidewall is damaged, the tyre should be replaced. Send us a photo and we will tell you.
1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the entire circumference. Driving on an illegal tyre can lead to a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points per tyre.
Once the technician arrives, one tyre usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. A full set of four takes a little longer.
Not always. If the other tyre on the same axle has plenty of tread and matches the new one, a single replacement is fine. If the tread depths are very different, replacing both tyres on that axle keeps the handling balanced. We will advise on the day.
Most tyre makers advise fitting the newer tyres on the rear axle, because rear grip helps stop the car from sliding in the wet. Some vehicle handbooks give different guidance, and we follow it.
There is no legal age limit for car tyres in the UK. Rubber hardens over time, so tyres older than five years should be checked regularly, and many makers advise replacing them at ten years even if the tread looks fine. The four-digit DOT code on the sidewall shows the week and year the tyre was made.
Yes. We supply and fit run-flat tyres and check the tyre pressure monitoring system after fitting.
Yes. Removal and responsible disposal of the old tyre are included in the price.
It is legal, but tyres on the same axle should be the same size and construction, and ideally the same brand and pattern. Mixing different tyres across one axle can affect handling and braking.
Yes, as long as there is safe, level space around the vehicle. Give us the business postcode and the registration when you book.
It is not safe. A bulge means the internal structure of the tyre is damaged, often after hitting a pothole or kerb, and the tyre can fail without warning. It is also an MOT fail. Book a replacement as soon as you can and keep speeds low until then.
It is printed on the tyre sidewall, for example 205/55 R16 91V. You can also find it in the vehicle handbook or on a sticker inside the driver’s door frame or fuel filler flap.
